Medicare Open Enrollment: Time to Give your Coverage a Yearly Checkup

Today is December 15, meaning that Medicare Open Enrollment has officially begun! Open Enrollment runs from October 15 to December 7, and during this time you can make coverage changes that will take effect on January 1.

During this period, you can:

• Switch to an Advantage Plan (Part C) from original Medicare (Part A hospital coverage and Part B outpatient coverage);
• Switch to original Medicare from an Advantage Plan;
• Change Advantage Plans;
• Change prescription drug plans (Part D), or purchase one if you did not previously

Even if you are happy with your current plan, it is still important to check for any updates. Plans can change from year to year, so be sure to check your coverage so you can ensure that all of your Medicare needs will continue to be covered.

Remember, Medicare’s Open Enrollment Period is different from your initial enrollment period, which is a seven-month window that starts three months before your 65th birthday and ends three months after your birth month.
